- Our company was established on March 1, 2004 as a result of the company division of the Metals business of the Furukawa Company Group.
Our history in metals dates back to the origins of Furukawa Co., Ltd., which began operations at the Kusakura Copper Mine in Niigata Prefecture in 1875 and at the Ashio Copper Mine in Tochigi Prefecture in 1877. In copper smelting technology, we established the Furukawa-Outokumpu flash smelting technology, which is highly regarded as one of the world's top technologies. This technology was developed by adding original improvements to the flash smelting method introduced in 1954 from the Finnish company Outokumpu. It has been widely adopted by copper smelters both in Japan and overseas.With this technological strength as a backdrop, we import copper concentrates from overseas and produce and sell copper, gold, silver and sulfuric acid, etc. For smelting, we have established the optimal production system by outsourcing to companies we have capital participation in Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co., Ltd.Furthermore, we are also engaged in mining operations business overseas in order to secure a long-term stable supply of the copper concentrate we use as a raw material, such as with investment in the Gibraltar mine in Canada through Furukawa Co., Ltd.
