Chemicals

Along with the supply of quality chemical materials, businesses for lessening environmental load are promoted.

Our launch into the chemical business dates back to 1935, when we started producing sulfuric acid. In 1944, we acquired Osaka Smelting and Refining Co., Ltd. Since then, this business has been expanded steadily. Today, our product lineup includes sulfuric acid, cuprous oxide, a raw material for ship bottom paint, a polymerric ferric sulfate solution, which is used as an inorganic aggregation material for water treatment, aluminum sulfate, and ferrous sulfate for industrial use. We also manufacture and sell, as functional materials, titanium carbide, basic copper carbonate, ferrous sulfate for food additives, sapphire substrate, and others. In order to launch into environment-related businesses based on the expert knowledge of such chemical substances, we started, as our new service, intermediate treatment for industrial waste subject to special control (Furukawa Co., Ltd.) in 1996.

Cuprous oxide is red pigment powder, which is used as antifoulant for ship bottom paint to prevent the ship bottom from being barnacled. We developed cuprous oxide that was suitable for ship bottom paint (GG type) free from organotin compound. Since its release, this product has gained great support from many customers because it conforms to the recent Marine Pollution Prevention Law.

Sulfuric acid

Sulfuric acid is an indispensable basic raw material in various industries for chemicals, electronic materials, steel, food processing, etc. At the Osaka Plant, sulfuric acid containing the lowest level of impurities is produced by the sulfur roasting method. It is the only plant in the Kinki area, that supplies sulfuric acid that can be used for food additives. A safe supply system has been established by the Osaka Plant plus two companies (*) investing in the Plant. For the transportation of products, an affiliated company of the Group, which has a sulfuric acid carrier vessel and tank lorries (for concentrated and diluted sulfuric acid), provides a perfect supply system.

Polymeric ferric sulfate solution
A polymeric ferric sulfate solution, which is used for water treatment, is produced. It provides superior effects of deodorization, dephosphorization and dehydration as well as the agglomeration effect of the conventional similar treatment agents. It is, therefore, widely used as a coagulant for sewerage, human waste and general industrial waste. This product line includes various brands to comply with every water quality.

Aluminum sulfate
Aluminum sulfate is produced using sulfuric acid for food additives as its raw material since it is mainly used for drinking water. This product is supplied to customers in a large area by taking advantage of the location. An affiliated company of the Group safely and properly delivers aluminum sulfate to customers using its tank lorry exclusively for this product.

Sapphire substrate
