The metals business of the Furukawa Company Group originated with the company’s foundation and currently manufactures and distributes electrolytic copper, electrolytic gold, electrolytic silver and sulfuric acid.
At Furukawa’s former primary mine, the Ashio Copper Mine, various cutting-edge technologies were developed. Supported by those technologies cultivated at Ashio over many years, we are aggressively involved in mining business overseas. Also, we have invested in Ohahama Smelting and Refining Co., Ltd. And Hibi Kyodo Smelting Co., Ltd., and have signed tolling contracts with them. Based on these contracts, we purchase copper concentrates and copper scraps, and have these companies handled the smelting process, thereby forming an optimal production system for electrolytic copper, sulfuric acid and other materials.

Electrolytic Copper

Since electrolytic copper is superior in electric conductivity and workability, it is used in a wide range of electrical wires and wrought copper and copper alloys. In addition, it is often used as building material because of its unique range of colors and corrosion-resistance.

Electrolytic Gold

Electrolytic gold is widely used for a variety of applications not only as assets, in jewelry or arts and crafts, but also in telecommunication devices, machinery parts and semi-conductors utilizing its good electrical conductivity and workability.

Electrolytic Silver

Electrolytic silver is highly photo-sensitive and often used in photo-sensitized materials, and due to its good electrical conductivity and low contact resistance, it is also used in telecommunication devices. In addition, it is used in silverware and accessories utilizing its ductility and malleability.

Sulfuric Acid

We manufacture sulfuric acid from sulfur dioxide generated when smelting copper concentrates. Its applications vary from fertilizer, industrial use, medical supplies to batteries.
